The House of Representatives probe on the proliferation of illegal drugs inside the New Bilibid Prison proved he was right when he tagged Senator Leila De Lima in the narcotics trade, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Sulong Pilipinas-Local Governance Dialogues in SMX Convention Center in Davao City, the President said that De Lima allowed the proliferation of illegal drugs inside the New Bilibid Prison. “From the looks of it, tinitignan ko kanina, it would be unfair to say that De Lima was into drug trafficking. But by implication kasi she allowed them through her driver [Ronnie Dayan] and sila [Justice Undersecretary Francisco] Baraan, I was correct all along. I was supplied with a matrix. Hindi ko na lang sabihin saan galing, kanino. Hindi galing sa akin,” he said.
Witnesses claimed De Lima was involved in the proliferation of drugs inside the prison, with inmate Herbert Colanggo saying he gave her P3 million a month to fund her campaign for the 2016 elections.
Duterte tagged De Lima, a vocal critic of his administration's drug war, as involved in illegal drugs last August. She has accused him of being behind campaigns to silence her criticism, including her ouster as chairman of the committee probing drug killings. Duterte has denied involvement in her ouster.
