MANILA - Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa claimed on Thursday that a "syndicate" within the organization that receives kickbacks from illegal drugs rings was plotting to oust him.
Dela Rosa made the revelation a day after he broke down on national television as he vowed to pursue president Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs despite difficulties within the police force.
"Merong sindikato sa loob ng PNP. Merong nagsusumikap na matanggal ako para tuloy yung ligaya nila," Dela Rosa told reporters. (There is a syndicate within the PNP.
There are forces working to remove me so that they can continue with what they're doing.)
"We will identify them, we will isolate them, and we will crush them," he added. The burly general dared members of the "syndicate" to face him head-on.
"Gusto nila ng suntukan? Gusto nila ng barilan? Gusto nila ng saksakan? Ng UFC yung mixed martial arts?
Kahit ano, sabihin lang nila, hindi ko sila uurungan dahil mga g*** sila," Dela Rosa said.
(They want a fistfight? A gunfight? A knife fight? UFC mixed martial arts? Name it. I will not back down from these fools.)
Despite some policemen allegedly on the take, Dela Rosa said the morale of his men remained high. "I'm receiving text messages even from PO1s (police officers)...
They are texting to show their support that they are with me and they will sacrifice everything to support my call to crush the drug problem," he said.
